Spring has sprung and Wood from the Hood gets the jump on those box elder bugs! They may be pesty but they don’t win the day as the beauty of this tree, reclaimed last fall, is preserved forever as seen on the amazing wood grain on the inside. With the spalting adding creative character, this piece has a “never say die” tale to tell! If that resonates with you, we can set you up! The width varies 36″ on the narrow end to 60” on the wide end. They are 109″ long, rough sawn at 3″ thick. The slabs are scheduled to be kiln dry the end of 2014. Contact us for details.
Earth Day with a new spin! Wood from the Hood encourages bright ideas revolving around grounded ideals as yet another creative customer celebrates this time-honored tradition. Last year this client saved their distressed tree from the landfill and this year they are enjoying meals around a beautiful 30″x 60″ Black Walnut table fashioned from a pair of book matched slabs with a clear finish.
The table base has sleekly styled slab legs. Distinct and unique sap wood, normally tossed aside in commercial milling, creates an elegant white edge that frames this custom piece making it truly a conversation starter!
For more details contact us. Together we can take it from slab to fab!

April 22, 1970 marked the beginning of a conscious movement of like-minded environmentally concerned people assembling to form the very first Earth Day. Larger than any other protests of it’s time, the numbers tell the story of a generation standing together streamlining the course of humanity in favor of the environment. 20 million people participated across the nation on that day with 10,000 in New York City alone gathered for concerts, lectures and rallies. 2,000 colleges and universities favored the pro – Earth celebration over the anti-war efforts for the day. By 2012, over one billion people in 192 countries took part in Earth Day festivities. Earth Day is credited for raising an awareness that has changed the map of both personal practice and public policy. Get more information on the history of Earth Day

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) –
Sitting under what’s left of their beloved 200-year-old red oak tree in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis, Cathy and Kevin Carmody are trying to find the silver lining in last weekend’s vicious storms.
“We’re going to be here for a while. We were hoping the tree would be here with us,” Cathy Carmody said.
“It’s one of the things that drew us to the neighborhood,” Kevin Carmody said.
The Carmodys lost a huge branch off the enormous tree — it destroyed their fence and the children’s play area. Making matters worse, an expert has told them their beloved red oak has been compromised and now threatens the only home their family has known.
The tree must come down. READ FULL ARTICLE AND SEE VIDEO
