NOTE: Slab #102A, though pictured, has been sold independently.
Purplish-brown Black Walnut slab with a creamy sapwood, live edge; flat sawn. Medium-textured, faintly contrasted, mostly straight grain with little curls rippling out from mirrored knots on each piece; curly pin knots appear throughout. Black Walnut is a very durable wood with a moderate natural luster; it is made popular by its cooperative working characteristics and rich purplish-brown coloration.
Our walnut keeps its purplish color and contrast with its creamy colored sapwood because it is not “steamed.” Typical lumberyard walnut will have a grayish brown color because it is steamed in the drying process to force the dark color into the sapwood, thus killing the purple color and bright contrasts.
This slab comes from the 55409 zip code of Minneapolis, MN. It measures 51″ x 12″ x 2″, 9 BF, and 41 lbs.
