Lead Sawyer Position
Wood From the Hood is looking to add a Lead Sawyer to our team. Our Lead Sawyer position will be responsible for facilitating our day-to-day lumber production operations. Responsibilities for this role will include operating an LT70 Wood-Mizer sawmill / Lucas Slabbing mill, maintaining all lumber production equipment including chainsaws, Bobcat, forklifts and dry kilns. This position is responsible for directing team members, maintaining safety protocols, grading and sorting lumber, prepping logs, maintaining log inventory, tracking lumber production, loading and unloading kilns.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Must work well in a team environment
- Experience using a bandsaw mill, chainsaws and chainsaw mills.
- Knowledge of wood drying and kiln operations.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and skid loaders
- Working knowledge of lumber species, grading, and scaling.
- Woodworking experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Excellent problem-solving / time management skills
- Positive attitude and takes feedback well
- Desire to learn new skills
- Ability to lift 75+lbs.

Hours: Ideally, we would like to run 4 days a week 10-hour days. As weather impacts our ability to saw some scheduling flexibility would be important. (The occasional Saturday)
